Music Director needed at St Andrew’s United Church, Bayfield, ON

St. Andrew’s Mission Statement reads: St. Andrew’s United Church strives to be a welcoming and inclusive family of faith. We will reach out in genuine love and friendship to all those who come among us, so that together, from the youngest to the oldest, we may grow in the spirit of God.

The successful candidate will assume leadership in St. Andrew’s Music Ministry, working with the Minister, Choir and occasionally other musicians at Sunday services and on other occasions such as Good Friday, Christmas Eve, community services and the Christmas Carol Service, as required.

Reporting to the Official Board, the Music Director will and be able to demonstrate skills and abilities in the following areas:

  • collaboration as a team member of staff working for, and with, the church;
  • commit approximately 6 hours per week to the endeavour;
  • musicality and technicality in playing the piano and accompanying other musicians;
  • proven experience in directing a choir and making it the best it can possibly be (16 member experienced SATB choir);
  • knowledge and experience of traditional and contemporary styles of secular and church music;
  • planning, preparing, accompanying and directing choir practices and Sunday services;
  • selecting and preparing hymns, anthems and instrumental music, in cooperation with the minister;
  • ensuring that musical instruments are cared for and maintained;
  • experience playing the organ is an asset but not required;
  • working with volunteer music librarians from within the choir to ensure the music library is maintained.

Remuneration will be based on experience, qualifications, RCCO schedule and is set on the recommendation of the Ministry and Personnel Committee which passes this request on to the Official Board for final approval.
