Knox Presbyterian Church, Oshawa, ON, seeks Music Director

Knox Presbyterian Church, Oshawa, is a healthy community of faith and a Leading with Care congregation. The Church has an Allen digital computer organ with three manual keyboards, a grand piano and upright piano in the sanctuary. There are three other upright pianos in the building and a two octave English Brass Bells.

The successful candidate will assume leadership in Knox’s Music Ministry, working with the Minister, SATB Choir, Bell Choir and occasionally other musicians at Sunday services and other occasions such as Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Christmas Eve, Memorial Service, community services (for example joint services with other churches and the Christmas Carol Service); or other special performances by the choir (for example a performance during the Open Doors Oshawa event).

Reporting to the Session, the Music Director will be able to demonstrate skills and abilities in the following areas:
▪ collaboration as a team member of staff working for, and with, the church;
▪ commit approximately 10 hours per week to the endeavour;
▪ musicality and technicality in playing the piano, Allen Digital Computer organ and accompanying other musicians;
▪ proven experience in directing a choir and making it the best it can possibly be (12-member experienced SATB choir);
▪ knowledge and experience of traditional and contemporary styles of secular and church music;
▪ planning, preparing, accompanying and directing choir practices and Sunday services;
▪ selecting and preparing hymns, anthems and instrumental music, in cooperation with the minister;
▪ ensuring that musical instruments are cared for and maintained;
▪ experience playing and leading a bell choir is required;
▪ working with volunteer music librarians from within the choir to ensure the music library is maintained.

Remuneration will be based on experience, qualifications, RCCO schedule and is set on the recommendation of the Personnel Committee which passes this request on to the Session for final approval.
