Gilmore Park United Church [GPUC] is a faith community committed to the inclusion of all people. We have a long history as a strong and enthusiastic congregation that actively participates in our local community and with other congregations and faith groups. Our choir joins with other Richmond choirs in community events. We are a multi-generational congregation with a vibrant small group of children who participate in the music ministry.
Our congregation greatly enjoys music and singing a mixture of contemporary Christian music and more traditional hymns. Our choir of ten to fourteen participates in worship. The choir and congregation are accompanied by our grand piano or our two manual Casavant pipe organ, and sometimes other instruments. Upgrades were made to our Sanctuary in 2022, including new screens and projectors. In the event in-person services are shifted to online the Zoom platform will be used.
We are seeking
A dynamic Music Director with enthusiasm and joy for music, who is an accomplished musician on the piano and with choral direction. Ability to play the organ and other instruments is an asset. The Music Director works closely with the Ministers to plan and support the music needs of the congregation including the weekly worship service, special services and events. The role also includes leading a weekly choir practice and participating in and supporting music for Children’s Ministry.
Assets include:
- familiarity with church culture (particularly the United Church)
- familiarity with a wide variety of church music
- experience in choral direction
- ability to record music for services and the choir (for learning)
- experience or interest in leading a worship band
- good communication skills
- enthusiasm for working with all ages
The position is 14 hours/week, an average, hours will vary dependent on the church year. Salary is based on experience and education and follows the RCCO schedule.
