Director of Music wanted, St. Paul’s United Church, Orillia, ON

St. Paul’s United Church Orillia is seeking applicants for our Director of Music following a retirement. We require a musician who is an excellent musician/pianist (Bachelor of Music or equivalent) with previous experience with choirs and organizing groups of musicians, good leadership and team work skills, and the ability to enhance worship using music. This is a salaried position at 16-20 hours per week with salary based on the Royal Canadian College of Organists scale and access to a benefits package. Our target date for hire is September 1, 2023.

Music Matters 2023, April 21-23 at Islington United Church, Etobicoke, ON. A great time was had by all!

What a wonderful weekend of sharing, learning and fellowship we had at Islington! Many thanks to all the organizers, volunteers and leaders who made it possible, and a big thanks to all who attended, in person and online. We look forward to next year, Music Matters 2024 in Thunder Bay! Details for 2024 will be posted as soon as they are available.

Join us in person or online for Music Matters 2023, Islington United Church, Etobicoke, ON, April 21-23, 2023

Our annual gathering for education and mutual support is happening in hybrid mode this year, live at Islington United Church in the greater Toronto area and on Zoom for those who can’t join us in person! Registration for in-person or online is now live at https://musicmatters2023.eventbrite.ca with a cost of $100 for in-person, including refreshments and some meals, or $50 for the Zoom option. We’ve also included options for paying more or less than the suggested amounts, to make it possible for everyone to join us, regardless of their financial situation. Come one, come all!

Here’s the schedule for Music Matters, with all times given in Eastern Daylight Time – details will be updated as more information comes in. For those online, the workshops and events held in the sanctuary will be live on Zoom. For in-person attendees, there are options for many of the workshop times this year. Choices, choices!

Church musician wanted, St. Andrew’s United Church, Cochrane, AB

St. Andrew’s United Church in Cochrane is looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic part time Church musician.

The Church Musician enriches the congregation’s worship and spiritual life through music. In partnership with the Minister and Worship Committee, the Church Musician is responsible for leading and directing music for worship services.

This is a part time position (estimated 10 hours a week). Fixed hours are 7 pm to 9 pm Thursdays for choir practice, and 10 am to noon Sundays for choir practice (10 to 10:25 am) and church service (beginning at 10:30 am). The remaining hours can be scheduled during the week to suit the individual.

We have an 18-member choir, a Yamaha Studio grand piano and a Baldwin organ.

Descriptions of the Two Positions Open for Nomination

Co-Chair:
The Co-Chair of the Administrative Committee will ensure the integrity of the Administrative Committee’s process and serve as the official representative of the Association and the Administrative Committee to outside parties. The Co-Chair shall ensure that the Committee acts consistently within its own standards of practice and those legitimately imposed by the membership. The Co-Chair is empowered to chair meetings of the Committee with all the commonly accepted power of that position (for example – ruling, recognizing). The Co-Chair is responsible for communicating the policies of the Committee to the various groups, associations, and individuals affecting by such policies. The Co-Chair is authorized to make reasonable interpretation of the provisions of the policies of the Administrative Committee. This position requires attendance of monthly meetings of the Committee or arrangement of an alternate to preside.
Terms of Office: The Co-Chair is elected at the AGM of the MU Membership for a three-year term with the first year overlapping with the current chair and a new co-chair sharing the position for the final 2 years.

Membership Coordinator:
The Membership coordinator is responsible for creating/maintaining national database of membership, in partnership with conveners. The membership coordinator works with membership to coordinate submissions to Gathering. In addition, the membership coordinator works with Communications to create and distribute quarterly MU newsletter.
Terms of office: The Membership Coordinator position is a 3-year term, renewable for another 3 years.
