Organist needed, Grace United Church, Peterborough, ON

Grace United Church in Peterborough, Ontario is seeking a permanent, part-time Organist to offer, collaboratively with our Choir Director, the joy and familiarity of traditional and contemporary musical selections including hymns, anthems, preludes and postludes for our weekly services and occasional special events.  This position is for 10 hours per week, with compensation commensurate with experience and guidelines of the RCCO and includes 4 weeks paid vacation usually taken in the summer months.  The start date is September 1, 2022.

Using our faithfully maintained two manual Phoenix organ and Samick grand piano, or other appropriate instrument, the ideal candidate will lead weekly hymns and other musical selections for our traditional worship service and provide a musical prelude and postlude.  The organist accompanies the adult choir (usually on the piano) during the weekly evening rehearsal (1 to 1.5 hours) and on Sunday morning.  Due to Covid and other changes, the choir is currently only SAT but hopes to fill out again when the Covid situation improves. In collaboration with the Minister and Choir Director, the organist will choose hymns that, where possible, reflect the theme or Scriptures for the day.

The organist reports to the Ministry and Personnel (M & P) Committee of Grace United Church for staff related needs, financial compensation, working conditions and safety concerns.  The M&P Committee is comprised of members who are accountable to the Board under the local governance structure of Grace.

Both our Contemporary and our Traditional Worship services are live-streamed weekly and can be viewed through our website, www.graceunited.ca where a full job description is also available.

Please send your resumé and cover letter or any questions to gray.pauldonald@gmail.com by July 15, 2022, with Organist in the subject line.  All applications will be received and reviewed in strict confidentiality.
