First St. Andrew’s United Church (FSA) in London, Ontario is seeking a full time Minister of Music/Organist/Choral Director for our congregation in the downtown core. Responsibilities include playing the Casavant tracker 3-manual organ for Sunday worship, directing the Senior Choir, and Children’s Choirs. There is also a long-running concert series which is curated by the Minister of Music.
The Minister of Music will be an accomplished musician, organist and choral leader and be knowledgeable in the fields of church music and liturgy. Academic certification in these or related areas is required. The incumbent will demonstrate the ability to work with and plan for the diverse age and ability needs of the congregation. Professional familiarity with a tracker action, three manual pipe organ is a necessity. While independent artistry and competence are essential, the Minister of Music must possess a demonstrated ability to work in and enjoy a team ministry environment.
FSA United has a long-standing tradition of a fine music program which includes a vibrant concert series that has hosted international artists such as John Rutter, Will Todd and the St. Lawrence String Quartet. The series features performances by the Senior Choir (on occasion with full orchestra), Handbell Choir, the First-St. Andrew’s (FSA) Strings and various guest artists. The musical resources at FSA are plentiful: in addition to the Casavant organ and a smaller solo organ, FSA possesses several pianos, including a seven foot Steinway, a five-octave set of White Chapel handbells, and various other instruments. There is also an extensive music library. The handbell choir Laudamus Bells and the FSA Strings often collaborate with the Minister of Music for Sunday worship services. The Minister of Music will have private office/studio space within the church, which includes a piano.
London Ontario with a population of 400,000 is located midway between Toronto and Detroit. With parks, tree-lined streets and bicycle trails, London is known as the “Forest City” and is a safe city for families. London has a vibrant community which boasts an international airport, galleries, theatre, music and sporting events.
Salary will be commensurate with the RCCO guidelines.
