Music Matters, April 24-26, 2020, cancelled due to Coronavirus concerns

The Music United Executive and the Music Matters Committee have been working hard to plan for this year’s conference at Islington United Church in Etobicoke, April 24-26. We look forward to this gathering each year – it is a time of connection, learning and inspiration.

We are aware that our communities are becoming increasingly concerned about the spread of COVID-19, which has now been categorized as a pandemic by the World Health Organization. As we see an increase in its spread and witness the cancellation of local and national events, we are becoming more aware of the need to refrain from non-essential gatherings.

As church, we are called to look out for those in our midst who are most vulnerable. The COVID-19 virus is especially devastating for older populations and those who are immuno-compromised. And it is in response to this duty of care and our desire to do our part to help prevent the spread of this virus, that the Music United Executive has decided to cancel Music Matters 2020.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this cancellation causes. If you have registered online for this event, you will be reimbursed the entire fee. We are hopeful that those who have made travel arrangements will be able to get compensation or credit to be used at another time.

Please feel free to be in touch with Alydia Smith at the General Council office (worship@united-church.ca) if you have further questions. We pray that our churches will continue to be safe and caring spaces during these next weeks and months.

Grace to you and peace,

Jason Locke
Chair – Music United
