Judges for our competition for a sacred song for Holy Week or Easter have named two winning songs: “Alone in Gethsemane” [PDF: 1 p/279 KB] by William Petricko and “Jesus Incarnate” [PDF: 1 p/279 KB] by the Rev. Dr. Bill Steadman and Dr. Robert Hall.
The prize of $500 will be shared by the co-winners.
William Petricko will retain copyright of his music and lyrics, but The United Church of Canada has the right to use “Alone in Gethsemane” throughout 2013—with performance uses restricted to United Church worship.
Bill Steadman and Robert Hall have assigned copyright to The United Church of Canada in perpetuity.
The Robertson-Wesley United Church choir, directed by Tammy-Jo Mortenson, made a video for us of Will Petricko’s song. Thank you RWUC!
Recordings of both winning songs will be available soon.
A new Easter service [RTF: 7 pp/112 KB] has also been written that incorporates passages from A Song of Faith and Steadman and Hall’s “Jesus Incarnate.” United Church congregations are free to adapt this service and the symbols [PDF: 1 p/13 KB] created for children’s time to fit their local contexts.
