Newcastle United Church is excited to welcome a new Music Director, after our long serving director, has retired. Music is an integral part of worship at Newcastle United Church. We have varied styles of music, from traditional to contemporary. There is an Allen Digital Computer Organ with 3-manual, 45-stop organ as well as several pianos in the church. Along with music skills, we are looking for someone who will be able to help grow the choir back to a more pre-covid state. The position is a part-time position that is approximately 8-10 hours a week. Compensation to be based upon RCCO scale.
Newcastle United Church is in the small but growing community of Newcastle, Ontario. We are a welcoming part of the community. Our congregation dates back to 1824 when a Methodist circuit rider priest first held services in the community. Our present church was built in 1867 when a large deep-toned bell and pipe organ were installed. Throughout the years, additions have extended and enhanced the building. In 1909, the Massey Family made proposals to once again, extend and greatly enhance the building including a new porch, an alter, a new pulpit and choir loft. A new pipe organ was installed. In 1964, more renovations were completed to both interior and exterior parts of the building. In 1999 the new Allen 3-manual organ was installed. All the original pipes remained in their position. In 2011 the Bell Tower and front façade were restored. In 2019 the church hall was refinished to create a brighter space, new office space and improved classrooms.
