Parkdale United Church in Ottawa, Ontario (https://parkdaleunitedchurch.ca/worship/) is seeking an accomplished musician and experienced leader who will plan, lead, and grow our worship arts ministry, working closely with the ministers to enhance worship and build Christian fellowship through the arts. Parkdale is a diverse community, with a mix of longstanding members and newcomers, families of all sizes and ages and from a variety of cultural backgrounds, with a broad range of worship arts needs and interests.
The Music and Worship Arts Director will ensure that there is excellent and inspiring music at Parkdale to welcome people into our community and draw them into worship experiences: from contemplative to contemporary to traditional. The Director will lead, or ensure strong leadership, for our traditional SATB choir, junior choir, and a contemporary praise music group that includes both singers and band musicians.
In addition to music, the Director will support other worship arts at Parkdale, which currently include a liturgical dance group and dramatic contributions, particularly from our children and youth members.
Our musical resources include a recently rebuilt Rodgers hybrid organ, a Yamaha C7 concert grand piano, a Yamaha P-115 electric piano, a Roland keyboard, a set of hand chimes, four other pianos, and a library of choral sheet music and contemporary Christian music. Parkdale has copyright and streaming licenses from OneLicense and CCLI, a professional sound system, and video streaming and projection systems.
The ideal candidate will play organ and piano, with proficiency in at least one, and is able to play and conduct different types of music (traditional choral to contemporary praise). The candidate will have experience in management, leadership and/or teaching music, choir training and choral conducting, providing music in a church/liturgical context, and planning and/or providing fun youth programming.
The candidate will be an energetic leader with a sense of humour, an enthusiasm for a broad range of music, and an ability to encourage and support volunteers and musicians at all levels of proficiency, including children and youth.
Parkdale is a welcoming and inclusive church with a diverse workforce.
