Leaside United Church, Toronto, ON, seeks interim Music Director

INTERIM MUSIC DIRECTOR

We are looking for an interim Music Director who will help us transition into a new phase of our music ministry at Leaside United Church as a part of our current Missional Development process. Leaside United Church (LUC) is a welcoming and affirming congregation in the Leaside and East York community in Toronto.  The Mission of Leaside United Church is to grow a caring and vibrant spiritual community that embodies God’s unconditional love following the teachings of Jesus and takes responsibility for being co-creators of a world that works for all. At present the Music Director leads the Chancel Choir and supports the leadership of a junior choir and youth jazz band. We are seeking a Music Director who will celebrate both traditional and contemporary music and inspire our choir as well as congregational singing. You will work in collaboration and co-operatively with the Minister to create integrated and meaningful worship experiences. The Interim Music Director is a part-time appointment from October 1, 2018 to August 31, 2019.

Responsibilities:
-Junior Choir
-Senior Choir
-Co-ordination of other music initiatives
-Support for congregational song
-Selection and planning music including anthems and hymns
-Prepare and manage Music Budget
-Attend and participate in the following committees and meetings:

-Worship and Nurturing Spirituality Committee (ex-officio member)
-Service Planning Meetings
-General Staff Meetings
-Ministry and Personal Committee meetings (M&P) as required

Services:
-Good Friday
-Easter
-Lessons & Carols
-Quiet (Blue) Christmas Service
-1 Concert per year

Qualifications: (minimum requirements)
-Mus. Bac in Performance and and/or ARCT piano/organ and/or commensurate experience
-Knowledge of classical, traditional, spirituals and contemporary anthems and other sacred music
-Knowledge of Pipe Organ mechanic
-Ability to work with minister, staff and the as well as choir members with varying musical abilities
-Management of LUC instruments and required maintenance
-Pass background check

Hours of Position:
-17 hours, including 3 hours Thursday night (Junior & Senior Choir) and 3 hours Sunday

Remuneration:
-Commensurate with the Royal Canadian College of Organists (RCCO) Table of Recommended Salaries
-Benefits in accordance with United Church of Canada Policy
