The Music Ministry at Fifth Avenue Memorial (FAM) United Church is very important to our congregation and a vital part of our identity in the community. Blending traditional and contemporary elements, our Music Ministry is supported by a 20 voice senior choir, an extensive library of anthems, a Cassavant pipe organ, a grand piano, and a host of talented musicians within the congregation.
The Director of Music Ministry is responsible for overseeing and participating in our weekly worship services and coordinating and conducting the FAM choir.
This is a part-time position (approx. 10 hours per week) from September through June, with the option to renew annually. Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience following the RCCO Table of Recommended Salaries.
Major duties and responsibilities:
• Coordinate music for regular worship services and other church functions in consultation with the Worship Committee and worship leaders.
• Accompany and lead choir anthems and congregational singing during worship.
• Accompany and direct regular weekly choir rehearsals.
• Arrange for suitable guest musicians from the congregation and the community as appropriate.
• Attend staff meetings as required.
• Work with church committees to establish yearly budget for music and music supplies.
• Purchase all music and music supplies within established budget.
Preference will be given to candidates with the following qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Church Music, Music Performance or Music Education, or the equivalent in education and experience.
• Demonstrated experience in choral direction.
• Proficiency in piano performance and accompaniment, pipe organ performance would be an additional but not necessary asset.
• Excellent inter-personal skills and ability to inspire volunteers.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
