St. James United Church is a Christian faith community located in downtown Montreal. The community was established in Montreal in 1802, under the Methodist faith, building its first church in 1807. Growth led the community to build the present church building on Ste. Catherine Street West in 1887, dedicated in June 1889.
Following a long tradition of commitment to social justice, the community meets the spiritual needs of people of all ages, claiming the value of each and every one, regardless of culture, race or sexual orientation, including people with the most diverse skills who are facing challenges.
We are seeking to appoint a Co-Director of Music to assume the role of musical leadership in our weekly and special services as organist and pianist and to oversee and develop the church’s music ministry programme in collaboration with the Co-Director of Music/Cantor.
In addition to the role of planning and playing music for Worship services, the Co-Director of Music/Organist would be responsible for overseeing the church’s instruments, including a 64-stop 4- manual pipe organ most recently rebuilt and restored by Letourneau in 2012, as well as a chamber organ by Karl Wilhelm (1978) and several pianos and keyboard instruments.
Furthermore, the Co-Director of Music/Organist would also be responsible for the planning and administration of the St. James Organ Festival, a series of weekly organ concerts featuring a variety of local and international performers, that takes place in July and August of each year.
It is estimated that this part-time position would require a time commitment of 10 hours per week and remuneration will be commensurate with experience and qualifications as described in the RCCO Salary Guidelines.
This position reports to the Court of Session and works closely with the Minister and the CoDirector/Cantor in the elaboration of the music ministry.
Applications (which should include a resume and cover letter) will be received until Friday, March 29, 2019
