Join Folk Trio Gathering Sparks and the Emmanuel Howard Park Gospel Choir for an uplifting afternoon of song and celebration!

1pm – 2pm: Quick Tips to Improve your Singing Voice! with Joanna Mills
Learn simple techniques and vocal exercises that will make you a better singer in just 1 hour!
JOANNA MILLS is the Gospel Choir Director at Emmanuel Howard Park United Church, teaches vocal and Musical Theatre at Broadway Arts Centre, and performs with local folk bands North of Queen & Bass Case. She is also an award winning composer and writes children’s musicals.
2pm – 4pm: Harmony Workshop with Gathering Sparks
Learn how to harmonize using different types of harmony (parallel, drone, independent) and apply your knowledge to some fun and uplifting songs!
GATHERING SPARKS is the graceful collision of Eve Goldberg, Jane Lewis, and Sam Turton—musical friends who bonded over finely tuned harmonies and the craft of songwriting. The trio’s inclusive approach embraces blues, gospel, folk, and pop influences tastefully played on acoustic and slide guitar, piano, accordion, ukulele, and banjo.
4pm – 5pm: Repertoire/Rehearsal with Gathering Sparks
Learn some background harmonies to several of Gathering Sparks great songs to perform with the trio during an evening concert!
5pm – 6:30pm: Dinner (provided)
Enjoy a meal with the artists and your fellow workshop attendees. Dinner will be a hearty fall soup of assorted legumes and beans, fresh home-made bread, a garden salad, and dessert. (Vegetarian soup will be available)
6:30pm – 7pm: Reconvene and warm up before the concert
7pm – 8pm: Join Gathering Sparks in a special concert! (1 free companion ticket to the concert included!)
All proceeds help EHP United Church keep welcoming EVERYONE, clothing the cold, feeding the hungry and spreading radical love.
