Music Director/Organist wanted, Cathedral Church of St. Michael and All Angels, Kelowna, BC

The Cathedral Church of St. Michael and All Angels, Kelowna, BC, seeks a Music Director/Organist. The successful candidate will direct a number of groups, among these a traditional cathedral choir, a children’s choir and a women’s choir. St. Michael’s Cathedral is a lively, growing faith community that gathers about 200 people each Sunday at three distinctive services. The parish offers a variety of liturgical and musical styles, seeking to nourish the congregation, as well as others from the community who attend services, with a meaningful worship experience. We are an inclusive, open, and affirming parish, working hard to make a difference in our local milieu.

The Director of Music is an active participant in the growing Cathedral community, whose musical talent and leadership skills serve to engage and encourage the musical gifts and abilities of people of all ages. He or she facilitates expression of these gifts in worship, education and celebration, by providing modern and traditional, high quality Anglican liturgical music suitable to the skills and interests of the congregation.

Music is central to our ministry. Accompaniment is on both organ and grand piano. The organ console is a Casavant, with pipe work and chest made by Abbot and Smith of England. With four divisions, the organ is controlled from a three-manual console and has over 1500 wooden and metal pipes.

Remuneration is in accordance with the RCCO salary scale. A minimum of three weekly choir rehearsals, Sunday worship, holy days, weddings and funerals (the last two of which represent additional income) encompass the position. A job description is available upon request.

Applications for only the Music Director or Organist’s position are also welcome.
