Seeking a Choral Director for Music Ministry
Calvin Presbyterian Church and Deer Park United Church are joined in an ecumenical shared ministry in the heart of Toronto at Yonge and St. Clair. We share a history, a neighbourhood, worship services and one Lord and Saviour whom we worship and trust.
We are seeking a Choral Director who will design and lead the music program and direct our choir which is comprised of paid section leads and dedicated volunteers. The Choral Director will work in collaboration with our resident Organist. The Choral Director will also work in collaboration with the Ministers, Choir and Worship Committee to develop and manage programming, events and the music budget.
Key to this position is a passion to provide a music ministry that demonstrates a commitment to both God-centered worship and excellence in music. The ideal candidate will have a broad knowledge of liturgical music, drawing on traditional, as well as eclectic and global resources. The Choral Director will also demonstrate variety and creativity in the expression of music for all ages and interests within the faith community and should be willing to contribute to the life of the congregation outside of worship services. Previous experience in a Presbyterian or United Church tradition would be an asset.
The large Sanctuary is graced with a well maintained forty-stop, three-manual pipe organ, built for the Church by Casavant Frères, in 1927, and a 6-foot Heintzman grand piano. Our choir rehearses on Thursday evenings and our worship service is Sunday morning at 10:30am. This position involves a minimum of 12 hours per week with compensation commensurate with experience and RCCO guidelines. Applications will be received until July 31, 2017 or until the post is filled.
